Welcome to our new student: Mikaella Pelesco
Tena Koutou Parents, Caregivers and Whanau.
Hello everyone,
Kia ora e hoa mä.
Welcome to Term Two as we move into the winter months with dark mornings
and evenings. On the plus side this is a time for snuggling up in front of the
fire and enjoying hot soup! It has been wonderful to see happy children return
to school. Please make sure your child has their fluro vest in their school bag as they keep visible and safe when travelling to school now that the mornings are so much darker.
New School Phone Number – 027 555 3534.
Please delete all previous numbers and only use this number, or the landline, to contact the school for messages, absences, or to talk with staff. The landline is still 03 2025 814.
A reminder about the use of technology and your children:
Do you know what your children are doing on devices? Only allow the use of technology in a public room in the house; never in the bedroom.
What social media are your children using? Is it legal? e.g. Facebook and Snapchat are R13.
What games are your children playing and what is the content of them? Is it age appropriate? What is the legal age to play it? Who are they talking to? Is it addictive?
Is your child still getting outside and playing, doing things physical and creative?
Is your child having a break from the screen regularly? Do they go off devices at least an hour before bed so that the blue light doesn’t stop them from sleeping?
It is not easy managing technology with children who have been brought up with it and know no different but the above questions may highlight some things to check up on. John Parsons is in the school on 25th July (early in Term 3), so try to get along to the parent session as he has lots of tips and knowledge that can help us, as parents, to keep up with the world that our children are growing up in and also, how they can keep themselves computer safe.
