At Riversdale School children are awarded House Points for displaying the school values of; respectful, responsible and resilient. Children are working towards achieving values targets.
50 House Points = Bronze Values Award
75 House Points = Silver Values Award
100 House Points = Gold Values Award
Congratulations to Priyah, Jaelyn, Aria-Lea, Maisy and Campbell who received their Bronze award last Friday. Ka Pai!
Learning Differences Parent Evening with Chris Cole
Thank you to all of the parents who came to listen to Chris Cole around learning differences on Tuesday night. It was a very informative evening. Chris was outstanding delivering Professional Development to both Staff and Parents. We are very grateful to have heard from an expert in the field.
Chris talked about ways parents can help their children at home. The main points were;
Support children’s self-esteem by providing your child with personal, meaningful praise e.g. I like the way you just concentrated on your reading for 10 minutes.
When children are anxious their brain goes ‘offline’ and children cannot think, learn or show their learning. Belly breathing is the best way to get rid of cortisol which causes anxiety.
Help children discover their strengths.
Encourage children.
Be their advocate.
Persevere.
Help children develop a growth mind set e.g. when a child says “I can’t do that”, add ‘yet’. “I can’t do that yet.”

Chris has offered to send her slide show to us, so if you would like us to email it on to you, we are very happy to do so. We are excited to be on this journey with such expert guidance, and will keep you informed of how we are developing, and catering for learning differences within our school.
